Ali Bozoğlan, a resident of Defne district in Hatay, found solace in a cave after losing his home in the devastating earthquake that struck the region. The earthquake, described as the disaster of the century, left thousands of buildings in ruins and claimed the lives of approximately 25,000 people in Hatay, which was most severely affected by the tremors.
Bozoğlan, a 55-year-old father of three, was among those who lost everything in the earthquake. Struggling with the psychological aftermath of the disaster, he stumbled upon a cave in Yaylıca neighborhood of Samandağ district two years ago. Seeking peace and seclusion, Bozoğlan decided to make the cave his home.
Living in the cave brought him a sense of tranquility and contentment that he could not find elsewhere. Acknowledging his unusual choice of dwelling, the Hatay Governorate extended a helping hand to Bozoğlan. They convinced him to move into a container home they provided, ensuring his comfort and well-being.
Reflecting on his time in the cave, Bozoğlan expressed his gratitude for the support he received, emphasizing that the cave offered him a unique sense of peace with its abundant oxygen and serene atmosphere. Despite the transition to the container home, he admitted that he still found solace in the cave and planned to split his time between the two dwellings.
The gesture of kindness from the Hatay Governorate touched Bozoğlan deeply, as he settled into his new living arrangements. He received all the necessary amenities and support, making the transition smoother and more comfortable. Grateful for the consideration and care shown to him, Bozoğlan expressed his thanks to the authorities, stating that the cave would always hold a special place in his heart.
